This blog post simultaneously serves two purposes: it answers the question of who I chose for today’s Fictional Favorite, and it asks the question, “Who’s a good boy?”
Krypto first appeared in 1955. Long lost Krytponian pet of Kal-El, he became the companion of Superboy (Clark Kent vintage). For a(n admittedly superpowered) dog, he had some serious reasoning skills.
He even had his own Super Team.
As the decades went on, his origin story varied. His primary allegiance bounced between Superman and Superboy (Connor Kent vintage). Krypto’s yellow-sun powers remained, but his canine traits came to the fore. He was protective of his territory.
He was protective of his people.
He flummoxed those more accustomed to kitties.
He’s been portrayed as a sweet, snuggly boyo.
He has, in the New 52, been given a more wolfish physique.
He is formidable.
He’s a sweet pup.
Who’s a good boy, Krypto? You are.
Honorable mention: Korra, because she’s loving and stubborn and badass and amazing.
… and Korrasami, because it still makes me ridiculously happy.
